Reviewing and sharing workshop on HIV counseling and testing among mIlitary health centers in Viet Nam

In the city of Dalat, from day 6 to day 8 May 2015, Military Medical Department (MMD) - Ministry of Defense organized a review and experience sharing workshop on HIV counseling and testing in the period of 2013-2014 and training on prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child, and TB - HIV. Medical doctors from military hospitals nationwide attended this event.

 In 2 years from 2013 to 2014, the Miliraty Institute of Preventive Medicine - MMD has conducted HIV test of almost 44,000 blood specimens and detected 69 samples positive with HIV. MMD annually screens HIV for nearly 50,000 new recruits; implementation of peer education for HIV prevention for 40,000 new recruits in 57 training centers on occasion of recruitment of troops and military students. With these activities, the number of people diagnosed with HIV are declining. This shows the possitive change in awareness of people about HIV / AIDS. In addition to review of the HIV counseling and testing and HIV treatment; the workshop introduced the PEPFAR workplan in the military hospitals; update knowledge and legislation on TB/HIV, relationship between TB and HIV; notes on the process of HIV testing and counseling for TB patients; overview of prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child; HIV testing, antiretroviral treatment for pregnant women; monitor the health of children born from mothers with HIV ... The workshop aimed to share experiences in the implementation of HIV / AIDS in the military as well as supporting health care for the people of the military hospitals and learn about HIV prevention from mother to child of Lam Dong province
