Objective: Raise knowledge and skills for drug use prevention among orphaned and vulnerable children and school students, teachers and local people in Ha Long

Project description: 

Drug use has spread widely in Ha Long for many years. Children, especially orphaned and vulnerable children affected by HIV/AIDS have been at risk of drug abuse. In response to the need for children to acquire knowledge and skills to protect themselves from drugs, the project consisted of the following major activities:

• Provision of school-based communication activities for children in secondary schools in Ha Long. This included training on basic knowledge and skills for drug prevention for teachers and volunteers
• Provision of club-based communication activities and home visits for orphaned and vulnerable children in the community.

Major achievements:

• Improved knowledge and skills for drug abuse prevention for 3,977 secondary schools students, 151 teachers and 509 parents of students from 6 schools
• Trained project volunteer provided drug prevention counseling through 2163 home visits for 507 families with vulnerable and orphaned children in Ha Long city.
